About Sugar Bioenergy
The sugar industry plays a vital role in renewable energy production by converting byproducts like molasses, bagasse, and press mud into biofuels, bioelectricity, and Compressed Biogas (CBG). Ethanol from molasses and sugarcane juice supports India's Ethanol Blending Program (EBP), reducing fossil fuel dependency. Bagasse-fired cogeneration provides clean electricity for sugar mills and contributes surplus power to the grid. Press mud is processed into CBG, offering a sustainable alternative to natural gas for transportation and industry. By maximizing resource efficiency, sugar bioenergy lowers carbon emissions, enhances energy security, and drives rural growth by creating new revenue streams for sugar mills and farmers, positioning it as a key driver of India's green energy transition.
IFGE : Sugar Bioenergy Forum (SBF)
The Sugar Bioenergy Forum aims to advance the role of the sugar industry in India’s bioenergy sector. The forum is committed to policy and regulatory advocacy, engaging with the government to strengthen the framework for ethanol, cogeneration, and compressed biogas (CBG). It facilitates industry collaboration by bringing together key stakeholders, including sugar mills and ethanol producers, to promote sectoral growth.
