About Grain-Based Ethanol

Ethanol is an alcohol-based fuel made from plant materials, primarily used to reduce emissions and enhance fuel efficiency by blending with gasoline. It is produced through the fermentation of sugars from crops like sugarcane, maize, and other grains.

Grain-Based Ethanol Distilleries use grains such as maize, sorghum, and broken rice to produce ethanol. The process involves converting starches into fermentable sugars, which are then fermented into ethanol. These distilleries play a crucial role in India’s Ethanol Blending Program (EBP), helping reduce carbon emissions, improve energy security, and support rural economies by creating demand for agricultural products.

IFGE : Grain-Based Ethanol Distillers Association (GEDA)

The GEDA aims at recognizing the growing role of grain-based ethanol in India's energy transition, IFGE has established the Grain-Based Ethanol Distillers Association to support industry growth, policy advocacy, and technological advancements.

The GEDA focuses on policy and regulatory advocacy to foster a supportive framework for ethanol production and blending, industry collaboration to strengthen the ecosystem, promoting technological innovations for greater efficiency and sustainability, and encouraging the use of surplus and damaged grains to support India’s clean energy transition. As India advances toward more sustainable energy solutions, the association plays a vital role in shaping the future of the ethanol industry.
